Big News guys – The Cheese Toastie Officially Takes Top Spot as UK’s Favourite Lunch with Brits Eating 4.3 Billion Toasties Per Year with over a third (37%) of Brits say Cheese Toastie is the tastiest lunch option crowning it the nations undisputed favourite!
We conducted research to celebrate the launch of the UK’s first-ever National Cheese Toastie Day (October 27th), results have officially crowned the mighty Cheese Toastie as the tastiest lunch option, voted by over a third of Brits.
The UK is a cheese toastie loving nation with almost half of the country (47%) eating toasties weekly and 20% eating them more than once a week. In total, the British public eats an average of 4.3billion cheese toasties per year, with 3.3million people eating a toastie every day and 31.3m eating at least one toastie a week. That’s a lot of cheese!
The undeniable champion cheese of choice is the mighty Cheddar with two-thirds of people choosing cheddar over all other options. Red Leicester was next on the list with 13.7% of the vote.
37% of Brits say that a cheese toastie is the tastiest lunch option – with jacket potato (21%) and beans on toast (14%) taking second and third place respectively and 1 in 5 people agreed that there is no better comfort food available to cheer you up, quite like a cheese toastie.
When it comes to flavour combinations, cheese and ham is the most popular with 30% of the vote, a classic cheese toastie on its own comes second (23%) and cheese and tomato take third place (22%).

So, dust off your toastie machine, dig out your grill pan or whip out your toastie bags and get ready to cook up a storm and celebrate the ultimate British comfort food – the mighty cheese toastie.
Cheese toastie loving Brits also revealed their top tips for the perfect toastie to The Yorkshire Creamery: 39% of people say that you should always use a toastie maker for the perfect cheese toastie, with 18% preferring the grill pan for their cheese toastie fix. A third of people stated that buttering the outside of the bread is crucial and 1 in 5 championed the need to toast the bread first.
